Mary Ashford died in mysterious circumstances 200 years ago in a country lane in Sutton Coldfield yet her legacy continues. Another local girl, Barbara Forrest, died exactly on the same date, 27th May, 157 years later in 1974. Due to the bizarre and tragic circumstances surrounding the Ashford case the law of the land was changed and remained changed until recently with the tragic case of Stephen Lawrence in London 1993. The whole story is fascinating, intriguing and gives a fascinating insight into what life was like in England (and Sutton Coldfield and Erdington in particular back in the early 1800ís.

Patrick Hayes will tell us the story. He is an Erdington based author and award winning playwright who has painstakingly researched and wrritten a book on the subject entitled 'One Morning in May'. This evening he will tell us this intriguing story that put Sutton Coldfield and The Village of Erdington in the national headlines.
