Stylish, exciting and lively with world-class skiing - a 'must do' resort

It’s been a few years since Spice West Midlands have skied in France and even longer since we skied the incredible Espace Killy so we’ve found a great way to return by booking this wonderful chalet just for Spice! This small chalet includes a spa area to unwind in at the end of the day and yes this year we do have afternoon tea and wine included with our evening meals!

Even without its sister resort of Tignes, Val d’Isère would be one of the finest ski areas in the world. Together they are pretty much unbeatable, particularly for skiers and snowboarders searching for challenging off-piste terrain. And yet there’s plenty for beginners, intermediates and those who like to take their skiing at a leisurely pace as well!

“Val” combines with Tignes to form the fantastic Espace Killy, offering endless excitement to suit all tastes and abilities. The resort is composed of La Daille, Val d’Isère centre and Le Fornet, all linked by a free bus service. At the bottom of the famous Ski World Cup piste, La Daille provides easy access to skiing via the Funival funicular whilst Val d’Isère centre has a lovely alpine village atmosphere. With many cleared walks, shops and a sports centre, Val d’Isère also offers plenty for the non-skier. Val is renowned for its nightlife, which ranges from lively clubs to cosy crêperies and traditional restaurants.

Chalet du Montet

Specially built for Inghams in 2012, this charming Chalet is ideally located in Le Fornet, one of the most picturesque parts of the resort, and provides a fantastic base for those looking to be first on the mountain.

Chalet du Montet is only approximately 4 minutes’ walk from the main Le Fornet cable-car giving direct access into the Espace Killy ski area- perfect for those wanting to be first on the mountain! The shuttle-bus stop (which runs until midnight / until 2:30am in high season) can also be used for the short ride to the resort centre. The regular free ski-bus is also useful in the mornings if you wish to start on the Bellevarde or La Daille areas for a change. At the end of the day, experienced skiers can ski directly back to the hotel via an unpisted track.

The du Montet is actually a top-to-bottom conversion of a traditional stone farmhouse, and where possible the owner has left the rustic original stonework exposed. The interior meanwhile has been totally re-fitted to an exacting and extremely stylish standard throughout, with superbly equipped bedrooms, complete with TV/DVD players, iPod/mp3 docking stations and Wi-Fi as well as en suite bathrooms. The fantastic facilities are completed by a spa area, ideal for unwinding after a long day on the mountain.

Beginners - A few nursery slopes in the resort, served by free lifts, are complemented by a new high-altitude sector for beginners at the top of the new Solaise lift. These nursery slopes are served by 3 covered magic carpet lifts.

Intermediate - Practically unlimited possibilities: there are some exhilarating runs from Bellevarde down to La Daille, or cruise down the Iseran valley as far as Le Fornet

Advanced - The famous 'Face' piste - the men's Olympic downhill - is a must, as are some of the resort's unrivalled off-piste, especially on the Le Fornet side. Take a local qualified guide and explore the glorious bowls and challenging couloirs of this huge area. Or use a guide to go ski touring to discover the untracked areas. Each day at 2pm on the Front de neige you can practise with transceivers and probes to discover 'victims' with the help of an expert.

Snowboarding - A boarders' paradise: very few drag lifts and lots of off-piste. The world-class snowpark has 30 kickers and obstacles for beginners to advanced. It is located on Bellevarde beside the slalom course and is easily reached from the top of the Olympique gondola or e Funival funicular from La Daille. There are also two natural ski/boardercross courses on Bellevarde and another track on Solaise for racers to pit their skills against each other in a safe but fun environment.
