Following the success of Choir Camp 2017 earlier this year, we’re delighted to be teaming up with conductor and long-standing friend of Spice, Matthew Jones, to launch Spice West Midlands’ very own choir: Zing!

The self-proclaimed Patron Saint of the Tone-deaf, Matthew is a passionate believer that anybody can learn to sing and has trained members to play such venues as The Royal Albert Hall and record with the likes of Boy George to critical acclaim.

Whether he’s leading the Queen’s grocers at Fortnum & Mason in song or those serving time at her pleasure, Jones’s formidable yet witty style never fails to engage!

An opportunity to mingle over tea & cake at an induction on Wednesday 27th September will precede the 12-week term. With a little help from The Matthew Jones Singers, we’ll be singing everything from Mozart to Metallica and working towards an inaugural concert at Christmas.

Should you be starting from scratch or developing your voice, this choir certainly has something for the ‘zinger’ in you!

Matthew Update: From Fortnum's to Featherstone, Matthew's behind bars again with QuillQuire at the Wolverhampton jail! As well as our own on the outside, members will be invited to sing with the prisoners in their Christmas concert ..

NOTE: This event is organized and supplied by Matthew Jones Music, whose terms and conditions apply, obtainable on request and for whom your local SPICE group acts as an agent.  Those booking enter into a contract directly with Matthew Jones Music.  For availability and bookings contact your local SPICE group directly.

THE VENUE – NOTE CHANGE

From the A4148 island at Walsall Arboretum, take the Lichfield Street exit for Town Centre. Get into the right-hand lane when you see the library on your right. Ahead, the road forks but continue straight on, through the pedestrian zone rather than taking a left onto Bridge Street. After 6pm, access is permitted. Bear right past the banks and you'll see the bus station ahead. Before that is the church. Take a right into another pedestrian zone. You can park anywhere on Darwall Street and there's a small car park on the left.

FEEDBACK

I had a really fabulous time at Zing! The songs were fun to sing and not too difficult so beginners like me could join in easily. I came away feeling uplifted and happy, and I'll definitely be going back for more.

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I am finding the choir really enjoyable!

I am someone who doesn’t like the sound of their own voice usuallly but going along to the sessions has made me start singing around the house!

It’s a nice feeling to go to a choir where there is no one judging you and you get the patience and the encouragement just to have a go, relax and enjoy yourself.

Definitely a confidence builder for those who think they can’t sing!

I recently participated in Zing! The Choir of Spice West Midlands, which was a brave move for a complete novice. I was made to feel very welcome by the friendly group and impressed by Matthew’s excellent, detailed instruction and witty remarks. With his encouragement and suggestions of how to control our breathing, even the most inexperienced members, were able to reach the more challenging notes.

It was also good to have the opportunity to become involved in a group activity, with each section of the choir making their own unique contribution. Over the coming weeks we intend to develop our skills and learn a range of traditional and modern songs which we will perform near the Christmas period. Next stop, The X Factor!!
