This 8-9 mile walk on the Staffordshire Way was very popular last August, so we thought wed see the difference that winter brings to this lovely area! This walk takes us along a scenic stretch of canal to the magnificent Shugborough Estate and back over Cannock Chase. Its a really varied route but is mainly on easy paths and canal tow paths, with only a couple of short steep bits. We might see a variety of wildlife if were lucky. We will enjoy a number of aspects of Cannock Chase including the hill at Coldmans Slade which has excellent views and is popular with deer. Well also enjoy the rolling countryside of Sherbrook Valley and the Stepping Stones on our return.

Important: The postcode ST17 0XS will get you to the general area ONLY as the Severn Springs Car Park does not have its own postcode for satnav so you will need to follow the directions that we send out.

Location: Seven Springs Car Park off A513 near Little Haywood (Note: you must read directions as the postcode will not get you to the car park!) this car park is free

Start Time: 10.15am for 10.30am Start

Coordinator: Richard Coulter 07899 950109 - if for any reason you are going to be late please let him coordinator know direct.

Walk Details:

Another walk on the Staffordshire Way, and this one takes us along a scenic stretch of canal to the magnificent Shugborough Estate and back over Cannock Chase. It's 8 miles, but is mainly on easy paths and canal tow paths. We might see a variety of wildlife if we are lucky. We will enjoy a number of aspects of Cannock Chase including the hill at Coldmans Slade which has excellent views and is popular with deer. We'll also enjoy the rolling countryside of Sherbrook Valley and the Stepping Stones on our return.

There are no toilets or cafes at the car park or on the route. Therefore we will probably divert slightly at the half way point of Milford Common for around 30 minutes where there is a pub for a quick drink and toilet break.

Bring waterproof and a water bottle and good footwear as there us one steep descent.

We expect to finish around 3pm when those who wish can continue for a drink at The Wolseley Arms.

Directions:

IMPORTANT: The postcode ST17 0XS will get you to the general area ONLY as the Severn Springs Car Park does not have its own postcode for satnav so you will need to follow these directions also:

TRAVELLING NORTH from Lichfield/Rugeley along the A51, follow the signs for Shugborough Hall. At the Wolseley Arms roundabout you join the A513 and after 1 mile you turn left onto the track leading to the Seven Springs Car Park (there is a small wooden sign saying Seven Springs Car Park where you turn onto a white tarmacked track). The turning is easy to miss, but is indicated by a small picnic site symbol on the road sign and is directly opposite a turning for Little Haywood.

TRAVELLING SOUTH from Stafford along the A34, take the A513 following signs for Shugborough. From this direction the Seven Springs Car Park is around 2 miles after the main entrance to Shugborough Hall on your right.
