Note: Due to a last minute problem we had to cancel our visit on January 7th. This date replaces that and we are in the process of contacting everyone who was booked on that date. But we can also take fresh bookings as well:

We are very grateful to have been invited again to visit this major Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) and discover more about the facility itself and about the Sikh faith and community. It is one of 13 Gurdwaras in Birmingham serving a Sikh community of around 40,000.

This Gurdwara was built in the late 1970's with a floor area of some 25,000m² over 4 storeys. There are 5 main Darbar Halls and 3 Langar Halls. There are approximately 100 rooms including facilities for residential stays.

Lunch: Our visit also includes lunch in the Langar which is a huge dining room that serves vegetarian food to anyone, 24 hours a day 365 days a year (It is designed to uphold the principle of equality between all people of the world regardless of religion, caste, colour, creed, age, gender or social status. The tradition of Langar expresses the ethics of sharing, community, inclusiveness and oneness of all humankind).

Dress: I am advised that this Gurdwara is fairly relaxed, so please just dress in an appropriate way for a place of worship. However, when entering the Darbar Hall, we’ll remove shoes and cover our heads. The ladies can use a scarf the gentlemen a cap or a hat. If you don’t bring anything, the Guruwara will provide pieces of material for head cover. You must not enter the hall if you are “intoxicated” or have just been smoking. For more details, please read through the notes HERE

Donation: The elders are giving freely of their time and food and have not asked for anything in return. However, I suggest that each member makes a donation of a few pounds on the day (the coordinator will organise this). We do this in order to offset their out of pocket expenses.

Important: Arranging this type of event is very dependant on goodwill. Therefore, we ask that if you book you do turn up on the day (or let us know in good time if you can’t make it) and that you are respectful to our hosts and their traditions.

Location: We meet in the Forecourt of the Gurdwara which is at 18/20 Soho Road in Handsworth. There is parking within the complex both in the front and at the back. Saturday is a busy day and the Gurudwara car parking spaces get filled quickly. There is parking on the side roads of Rose Hill Road and Piers Road.
